Itinerary
Your day begins with an early-morning pickup from your Panama City hotel. As the city gives way to the greenery of the Chagres rainforest, you’ll head toward an Emberá community about an hour’s drive from the capital, with your guide taking care of the journey.
Follow your guide through the rainforest to the village, where community members welcome you to discover their way of life. With help interpreting conversations, you’ll hear about local traditions and see the craftsmanship behind handmade pieces. If something catches your eye, you’ll have the opportunity to purchase a keepsake directly from its makers.
Sit down to a traditional lunch of fried fish, plantains, and fresh fruit—a chance to pause, enjoy the flavors, and take in your surroundings.
Later, return to Panama City with transportation arranged, arriving with the evening ahead of you and a new memory to carry home.
1. Chagres National Park
Begin with a pickup from your Panama City hotel or accommodation and head into the green surroundings of Chagres National Park. A canoe ride takes you along the river, with rainforest lining the banks and beautiful scenery unfolding along the way.
Next, follow a forest trail for approximately 20 minutes to a waterfall. The walk includes muddy ground, water crossings, and slippery rocks, so expect a little adventure underfoot. Once there, cool off with a refreshing swim or simply pause to enjoy the sounds and scenery.
2. Tusipono Emberá Community
Spend time with the Tusipono Emberá community and discover traditions through the voices of the people who keep them alive. A conversation with a community leader offers insight into daily life and cultural heritage, followed by traditional music and dance beneath the roof of a communal hut.
Enjoy a lunch of fried fish, plantains, and fresh fruit, then take a closer look at traditional clothing and handmade crafts. These encounters offer an opportunity to appreciate local artistry, learn about the community’s relationship with its surroundings, and connect through conversation and shared moments.
Come with curiosity, take time to listen, and leave with memories of both the rainforest and the people who welcomed you.
